Where this format came from
The format grew out of a well-known two-panel reaction image from a mid-2010s music video: in the top panel a performer turns away and holds up a hand in refusal, in the bottom panel the same person points approvingly. Internet users paired the panels with two options, and the contrast — same person, opposite verdicts — became a universal shorthand for preference. Our version recreates that structure as an original two-row layout with a refusal emoji above and a cool approval emoji below.
How to use it well
- Keep the two options parallel in length and grammar — the joke is the contrast, not the wording.
- Put the genuinely worse option on top; readers expect the bottom panel to be the winner.
- Specific beats generic: name the actual app, habit or food, not a category.
Example captions
- Top: “A meeting that lasts an hour” — Bottom: “The same update as a two-line message”
- Top: “Paying for a meme maker” — Bottom: “A free generator with no sign-up”
- Top: “Replying ‘k’” — Bottom: “Actually saying what you mean”
